I just installed a new starter from Autozone for my 84 Camaro and it's making a whining sound after it cranks over. I'm thinking it's a shim problem but the guy at the parts store says it could be a bad starter and he offered to replace it. A guy who lives near me told me to just ignore it that it's normal and I should stop wasting mine time trying to shim it. Does anyone have any suggestions? If it's fine the way it is I'll leave it, but I'm afraid I could be damaging my flexplate.
