car is cutting out when under electrical load from....

Whenever I turn on anything to control the climate within the car (A/C, heat, vent, winshield defroster) this puts an electrical load on the car which causes the car to cut out. When I say cut out, I mean the stereo will cut out, the guage lights flicker and guages jump, and the car may even stall if idling. A circuit is cutting out somewhere, because we hooked up the scanner, no codes, and everything was good, but battery voltage was a little low. The alternator may be going, but that's not the cause of the problem, if anything, it's just contributing. We shook around the wires and ground under the hood and near the starter, but nothing. It may be a connection under the dash, didn't get to that yet, but there's a definite problem where when the car cuts out, everything on that circuit is out until whatever the problem is gets back to a working load capacity, meaning, the lights all still work, but the car won't start and the blower won't be on, until it decides to come back on. Somewhere a circuit is going when under a load, with no blower on all is fine. All I'm looking for here is if anyone has had a similar problem, and what that turned out to be. Thank you, and sorry for the length.

BTW the car is the '90 Iroc

Ignition switch defective?? Does the problem occur if you have the switch in the "vent" position, with the blower on high speed? In high speed the blower power is routed through the blower high speed relay under the hood & not the ignition switch.

New development here. I went to have to alternator replaced because when we had the scan tool on the computer it showed low voltage (12 - 12.5) but the mechanic checked the alternator and the battery and both were good (14+). So now there's apparently a problem between the battery and the computer. I guess it's off to the dealer. Ideas are very welcome.
