Remote Hatch Release problem

maybe someone can answer solve my little problem. I have an originally equipped remote hatch release on my 84 Trans Am that won't work. I just did an engine swap and some elimination of the computer and any other unused wires. I did not clip any wire unless if everything worked and I could simply unplug the wire or if I knew spec what the wire was for so I don't think I cliped the wrong wire somewhere. the switch in the dash has power, I checked it with a test light. now only one black wire goes into the actuator, is that wire supposed to have juice??? I can't firgure out why it won't work. prob hopefully just have a bad ground. HELP ME OUT GUYS!!

hatch release solenoid only has one wire running to it. when the wire receives +12volts, the hatch pops open. solenoid has a ground path through the mounting bolts.

the hatch pop actuator is a solenoid. the system also has a relay, switch and some associated wiring.

if you don't have a remote keyless entry system installed in your car, you might consider adding it. being able to unlock the doors and pop the hatch by remote control is very convient when it's raining out or you've got your hands full of groceries.

The relay for the hatch solenoid release is under the center console beside the parking brake. You also need to attach the wire to the parking brake so it grounds it. You alsoo need to make sure the ground wire that attached to the 10mm bolt that mounts the solenoid release is still in place and that it goes to the body for ground. Otherwise it won't get a ground because the plastic guides insulate it from the frame. The fuse is a 20 amp and labeled "Accessory". Good luck, Lon.

In my car if the key is in the on position the E-brake has to be up for the trunk release to work. Check that the sensor for this is not bad. Unfortantly I don't know where to tell you to look. The simple fix would to be to run a new wire from the switch to a relay and relay to the actuator in the rear, I would fuse it at the switch to protect the electical system. All it needs is a short 12+ I don't know the amp but a 30 amp relay will work. Anyone know the amp for the actuator?

see picture in next post you cant add a picture in edit.

Just follow the schematics on the relay to get the connections right, A foglight relay works great.

I have put the release in a few cars that didn't have it, not all f-bodies. I have helped friends build lowriders and rice cars.
