Check engine light wont go off!

Alright, i am washing my engine (84 z28) lightly with an hose, like i have done a dozen times before. But now my engine light comes on and wont go off. I have tried testing the computer code, but the check engine light will not flash, it just stays on. The car was running perfect before this, I was just washing the engine to make it look better cause I am selling the car (I already have a 91z28). I have a buyer if I can get this damn light to go off! Any clues anybody? thanks

I'm not sure about your year, but on my 86, there was a fusable link comming off the positive battery wire near the batterry terminal (orange wire) that ran to my computer. One time the wire came off and the engine light stayed on and woundn't flash like your does.

well I finally found the problem, there was a wire underneath a a big wire loop melted to the manifold. of coarse it was a emissions sensor to make the ecm not work right. now the car runs much smoother. checked my codes and theres no problems.
