Speedo doesn't work .....
Okay, so I spent the last 2 weeks getting my car ready to go on the road after 6 months of waiting. I removed the heads and got them re furbished. Today was the first day that I had the car out for a spin after getting it all back together and the speedo doesn't work. All of the other guages do work. When I turn on the key the speedo needle moves slightly but doesn't register speed.I also removed the guage cluster 2 months ago to clean the bezel. SO my question is what did I screw up in the engine bay when I was replacing the heads, or what could I have screwed up when I removed the guage cluster?

Does the odometer work, because if it doesn't chances are the cable for the speedo is broken (if its a mechanical speedo). I currently have the same problem (both speedo and odometer don't work). I'm fixing it tomorrow, I'll let you know how it turns out.
If the odometer still works, I really don't know what it could be, sorry. Later

Did you mess around with the tranny? The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is on the tailshaft, that might have come disconnected. Also, take the gauge cluster back out, you might have crimped the circuit "board" back there. I would check the VSS first, even if you didn't touch the tranny, its the easiest to check. Hope you find the problem!

Thanx to all who have responded. A connector came loose from the tranny. The car is slammed into the weeds, so I had to put it up on jackstands to search out the problem and sure enough a connector had come loose from the tranny when we were mucking around with the wiring harness (trying to get it out of the damn way). A real easy fix, thank god! Now I can move on to the next problem
