temp gauge not working

stopped working the other day while driving. The cooling fan still works, so I replaced the sending unit and the gauge still stays on 100. broken wire? something else? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

usually a sending unit fixes that, you might want to run a search on here. i am asumming that you you run the car for awhile, and the temp still stays where is it at. the guage might need replacement.

make sure that the guage is also getting switched 12v power supply to the backside of it still, coems off fuse panel fuse source.

the sending unit only controls negative side of the circuit. guage hot all the time with key on.,

good uck

Had that same problem with my 86 camaro. Turned out that the ignition switch was bad, there is a wire that comes directly off the switch to the cluster. Replaced the switch and everything worked ok.

does it sweep to high temp when your trying to start the car ? If it does, there's a break in the wire somewhere between the gauge and the sender. If not, the gauge it's getting power or is just broken.

Don't rule out the sender completely. I bought a new Borg Warner unit to replace my old sender and it did the exact same thing as you describe. I checked all the wiring and everything and it seemed to be ok, so I bought an ACDelco sender and now it works just fine.

i vote for sender unit or wire between there and guage broken or loose, or missing hot power supply from fuse panel to back of guage.

good luck,
