BAD Electrical Problem(s) with my bird.
Ok first of all I have a 85 Firebird S/E.I bought it for 900 dollars in November as a project car for me and my friends.Took out the old engine and put in a 350.Also put on a magnaflow exhaust and put some different rims and tires on it.Now I have some electrical problems...
There are a couple of problems.
First Whenever I have my lights/parking lights OFF and I turn the blinkers on the little arrow inside will be fine and blink the way I want to turn but if you go outside and look at either the front or the back of the car it looks like I have the hazards on because on both sides will be flashing.But when I have the lights/parking lights ON and turn the blinkers on the little arrow inside will click once but the freeze so I have to manually move it up and down but it still looks like I have the hazards on from the outside.Yes I know this sounds weird
The second problem is whenever I dont have the lights/parking lights on and I hit the brakes the brake lights will come on but so will the dash lights and everything on the inside except for the dome light.
Anybody have any ideas of what to do? I am in no way skilled at electrical stuff and neither are my friends so I was thinking about taking it to a electrical mechanic.If you do have an idea of what the problem is then do you know how much the electrical mechanic would probably charge me? If it is an easy problem then I would be willing to do it myself.Thanks in advance to anybody that helps out this newbie

You've got some issues with this car. Sounds like some shorted out wires. Possibly caused by insulation rubbing off, maybe my rodents or by someone else's repair attempts. Unfortunately, wiring problems are pretty hard to track down for the novice, espicially with a problem like you have which sounds like it could be a short in one of your harnesses. If you want to tackle this yourself, get a GM service manual with wiring diagrams for your specific year. The diagrams in the back of chilton's and hayne's are close to useless. I've got no idea what a professional would charge, but it could be alot of labor to track down the problem, unless they have a more sophisticated way of finding the short.
