what are you acually doing with the dist?
If you pull it out, put your timing mark on
TDC O, Then pull the dist cap to make sure were your rotor button is pointing, pull it out you may have to adjust the oil pump with a long screw driver down inside to the dist go back the same it come out put it back the same way the rotor was pointing, put the cap on plug you wires up, crank it up, unplug the brown and black wire above your blower fan, set your timing, tighten the dist down, plug the brown and black wire back up. unpluged it should read your timing degree (6) or what ever yours calls for and when you plug it up it will probably change but thats ok. just make sure that you set it with the brown and black wire unplugged

well just to swap it out thats what you need to do it doesn't mater what type your going to use. as long as it is for the same engine.
