Does anyone know how to reset the odometer to zero on the digital dash (nothing dodgy!) but it's a retro fit and I want to avoid playing around with it and getting the permanent error message... just so I can add to my previous mileage

-if not, is it possible to replace the chip for a new one?

If not, do you know where I can buy a new separate odometer that is suitable for the firebird with 16 inch wheels?

There is a memory chip in the odometer assembly that you can swap over to your new odometer to keep the mileage the same. I just wish it were as easy as a chip for the analog odometers. I dont know about getting a new chip.

Unfortunately, digital dash odometer data is encrypted in a 256 byte EEPROM, and after reviewing the data stored in the EEPROM resulting from several different mileage readings, I was unable to decipher the encryption algorithm that GM used to encrypt the data - anyone else try? The digital odometers are unlike the analog odometers, which are easy to adjust.

thanks for your help - It'd be cool if the chips were available from GM new to replace, just to set to zero... does it cause the permanent error message, just by removing and replacing the chip -I'm sure there's some way of replacing that chip for new in the event of a mailfunction -but I've been told that GM have stoppend making the parts for the DIG DASH -it may not apply to the counter chip though as it's made by NCR and I guess is probably the same as that used in other GM cars, but I'm just guessing....

 

The serial EEPROM has been discontinued by the mfgr. The EEPROM may be replaced, as long as it has valid data in it. If there is invalid data in the EEPROM, or if the EEPROM is removed, the message "error" will be displayed by the microprocessor on the board.
