Well, I am booking it down the freeway and try to set the cruise control but no dice. I notice that the choke lite is on, tach and volt gauges are pointed streight down. All the other gauges are OK. The lights are bright and the eng. is running great. I make it home OK and this morning I checked the alt. belt and batt. voltage. Belt was just fine and batt. voltage is 12.54v. Start the eng. and check batt. voltage at 1000rpm. Voltage is 14.78v. Thats all I had time for but I thought I would tap the knowlage of this fine form. Any thoughts?

Get your alternator tested to make sure it is working. Around here it's free and the alternator isn't very hard to get off, so I think that should be your first step.

I agree with flyaway190.
I also have an 84 Z28.
That sounds just like a bad altenator,or actually what happens when you lose the altenator belt.
Just pull it and get it checked. The car may not be dead now,
but i bet it will die soon if it is the alt.

Well, the alt. turned out to be OK and that was good advice because it did eliminate a potential problem and gave me peace of mind. The next easy thing was to check the fuses and I found the 10 amp fuse blown for the gauges. This puzzled me because other gauges still worked. Then I realized that the other gauges that still worked had sensors that operated them. I installed the 10 amp fuse and everything worked so i went for a test ride. I heard this whinning sound an realized that I must of brushed against my nitrous oxide elect. fuel pump switch yesterday and it was running all the time. When I turned on the cruise control the draw must have been to much for that 10 amp fuse. Fixed!! Thanks
