Older Engine + ECM = ??

I'm looking to replace the engine in my '86 IROC with a more powerful one (probably gonna be a 302 from one of the first gen Z/28's). Obviously, this new engine will be carburated so I don't really have a need for the onboard computer anymore. I was trying to think of things that would be wired up to it... mainly, I'm concerned with the speed control. Would it still work if I removed the ECM? Or, would it be possible for me to "disable" certain parts of the computer and still have a functional car? I'm not sure exactly *what* the ECM controls besides the fuel injection.

You have a 350 in the IROC, right? I really don't think you will get the same performance from a 302 that you would from the 350. IMO the best way to go would be to invest the money set aside for the new engine in the 350. That way the power numbers will far exceeded what you can do for that amount of money to the 350 versus the 302

Actually, the engine in the '86 IROC is a 305 TPI rated at 190hp... I don't believe that they made the 350's until later model IROCs.
