Dash lights

Every time i put the ignition key in the On position the dash lights come on,even with engine runing...I replaced the dim switch for the lights and nothing.I have checked for loose connections and no prob!!!what could it be?

there is a dim switch towards the left of the steering wheel that controls the brightness and on/off of the dash lights.so think they are suppose to be on.
