Way to check engine harness??

I just bought a used TPI system from a 91 Transam. It'll be awhile before I put it in my car with the new engine, so I was wondering if there was a way to check each individual wire on the harness while its out of the car so I know I wont have to worry about it later. Also, is there anyway to check the computer? Oh and one last thing...when I recieved the harness....the yellow connection that plugs into the computer was broken in several places...it seems to hold in place well, but Im just worried about it, the side is completely squished...luckly no pins there...is the connection on my TBI harness the same? If so, can I just take the pins out and switch the connector? If not, can I do the same using a connector from another car that isnt damaged? If this is my only option...can I get it direct from GM or something...or do i have to buy a used one? Thanks
