I have a 87 gta with the digital dashboard, i have some type of problem with my tach for some reason whenever it gets hotter out the rpms just start to gradually rise till it just fills up the top and shows that im redlining when my rpms are actually at their normal state. It only seems to happen in the middle of the day when it is hottest out.

that happened to me too, but it wasn't hot out at all. all of a sudden i look at the dash and i see i'm redlining at 25 mph lol. then it just stopped and it hasn't happened since.

 

I get the exact same thing!!!!!! It is winter, and the more i run the heat, the quicker it does it!! How do we fix it!!!!!!

 

The dash in my 87 gta does the same thing with the other guages (temp,voltage ect.)I think it maybe just a bad or dirty connection between the dash and the connectors behind it.

 

Mine is deffinatlly iniated by temp!!!!!!! Like an electronic component is out of tollerance when it gets hot!! Later!!

 

My tach in my GTA just reads exactly twice what it should be. Any ideas on how to fix that???

 

yes, get rid of the digital dash.

you need to have a scan tool put on to see if the computer is reading the odd rpms or if it reads normal. if they are normal, than the problem is from the ecm to the dash. if the computer reads odd, (wich is more likely) your modual on the distributo may be on the way out, because it is what sends the rpm signal to the computer.
