Non working temp gauge

My ignition module had blown out, and now the
temp gauge is not working. It pegs itself when you start the car, but then it just settles down to 100 degrees, and does not move, other than when you shut the car off and it goes back down all the way.

I replaced the sender, and also replaced a 2 foot section of the wire where it plugs into the sender, cause it fell on the headers and melted.
Could I have fried the gauge when the module blew, or even when the wire melted, or is there something else I may be missing?
