No Battery power to Radio

I've taken out the stock radio, which wasn't working, and I'm going to install my Alpine CD deck. I've test fitted it and it will work, but, there is no battery power in the radio leads, to supply the constant power.
I have ignition power, but both the grey and black leads work as a ground.

Whats going on here?

I would assume you are talking about the power to battery that helps the deck retain memory? I have found that some early model cars haven't got an auxillary power because the original tape deck didn't need it... If your tape deck didn't have a clock, then chances are that you wont have auxillary... I don't know if any f-bodies came without a clock... I've only seen this on an '85 CRX. I had no problem hooking up my AIWA CD player to my '84 in sig. You may want to go find a wiring harness from the junk yard...

If you haven't already, you might consider buying an adapter kit for your car which might provide a solution, at worst you're out $30 for a much cleaner install.

People feel free to poke holes in my knowledge, I've only installed 4 CD players...
