3rd brake light

My 3rd brake light in my '1987 T/A' is messed up.. it works one day and not the other... so i was thinking it was jsut some loose wires... well everythign is in tack. but when i put the 12 volt tester to it... the light (on the tester) didnt light... then i tried to follow the wires... i didnt have a clue where they came out at... do they go through the roof, or back down into the brake panel somehow> ANYONE>???

You probally just need to adjust the rubber stops on the bottom of the hatch. There is a plate that makes an electrical connection only when the hatch is closed. Check that plate for power and maybe give it a clean with some sand paper.

Try what nosaint suggested, but you may also have a problem that I had...

My third brake light stopped working after I put new hatch-props on the back. After much confusion and troubleshooting, I determined that the props were losing continuity when the hatch was shut. That meant no defoggers and no brake light (the ground wire for the brake light runs through the cylinders). All I did was rewire the light to another ground source.

I understand that your '87 probably has the third brake light on the spoiler, and not the hatch, but it may be wired up the same as my '86.

alright, i sanded the metal plate up, and cleaned it with some prep pads.. then it still was flickering... so i pushed it down a little and it came one... then i took off the little metal plate on the trunk.. put some washers (spacers) under it to make it stand up a little higher... now its like new! thanks a lot!!!

Is there a way to make the third brake light on the top of my hatch work on my car? I have an '83 with an '86 hatch. I was wondering if there was any way to make it functional. Let me know. Thanks.
