Hardwiring radard detector from cig lighter??
Hardwiring radard detector from cig lighter??
So I've lost the cig adapter for my radar detector but still have the power cord and detector. How would I wire the power for the detector? Is it as easy as jumping off the back of the lighter receptacle?
Add an inline fuse to your radar detector...red wire snap in glass fuse will do fine. Then splice the red radar detector wire with inline fuse into the cigarette lighter or other HOT line. Ground your detector black wire directly to the chassis. I would use a HOT line that is hooked to the ignition switch so that the detector will go on and off with the key.
Add an in-line fuse to your radar detector HOT wire (10 amp should do) and then splice the detector HOT wire into a HOT source. Ground the Black wire directly to the chassis under the dash. I would use a HOT source that is wired to the ignition so that the detector goes on and off with the key to keep from leaving it on and draining the battery.

you might want to wire it into an ignition switched wire(one that is only on when the ignition is on) that was the way I did my last one. That made it were all I had to do to turn on or off was to turn the key to on or off.

Yes. And you want Ignition, not Accessory. This way, the detector will only turn on when you turn the key to Run. When you turn it backwards to Accessory to play the radio, the detector will stay off.
