Rear Reverse Lights

I just bought an 87 z28 a few days ago, and noticed the backup lights only will work if I have the shifter button down and the stick near park. (auto tx) How can I fix it so the lights come on while shifed into reverse.

You need to remove your center console to expose the electricals under your shifter. Under there you will find a switch that activates your reverse lights that is activated by the position of your shifter. This switch needs to be adjusted to activate when the gear selector is in reverse. If the switch isn't there in your particular car it is underneath the vehicle mounted on the transmission near the gear selection lever arm. You can adjust it there too. Get a Haynes manual to find the location of the switch.
