fan relay by-pass

well, since i'm tired of trying to track down which relay or wire is snafu, i'm going to run a power wire from my battery to the fan, and just have a manual switch inside...
how do i ground it so that it turns on with the switch?

thanks

DONT RUN A WIRE DIRECTLY TO THE FAN! There is a temperature switch on the engine block that grounds the fan relay and turn the fans on. Find the temperature switch wire, splice into it, run a wire from that to a switch in the dash then ground the back of the switch to something metal under the dash. If you want a lighted switch, run a wire of the positive switch terminal to the cigarette lighter hot wire or some other hot wire that is hooked to the ignition. Voila....switch operated fans. Life is good.

Depending on the year & type of F-body you have, the fan relay coil ground may be controlled by the ECM, or an A/C high pressure switch, as well.

i dunno. something is bogus about it....my car won't turn it over, but if i plug the fan directly to the battery in my friends mustang, you can barely hold onto it it turns so fast...in mine, won't go. even put in a new battery last night.
i was just gonna bypass all relays all together.

Is it a Ford fan? J/K

Seriously you should use a relay if you are going to use a switch. Most available switches will not handle the power that an electric fan draws. If you want to ditch the entire stock system then install a new relay. Painless makes a kit that includes a relay, a 30 amp circuit breaker, high temp fluid resistant wires and instructions. All you need to add is a switch(which I understand is ALL you wanted to add in the first place.) I think something like this could save you some headaches in the future. Let me know if you want one.
