Question about straining the alternator.....
Ok, I am going to hook up a very mild system in my car with just one 12" sub and some kind of amp but not sure which. And I also wanted to get some aftermarket fog lights for my rs and I started wondering if this would be too much of a strain on my alternator. I have the stock hundred and like four or five amp alternator. If I do this, should I think about getting a higher amp alternator? Also, is it real hard to hook up aftermarket foglights? I was just going to get some stock iroc looking ones(Not the ***** ones)? Anyways, I was just wondering if this would strain it or not. Thanks.

It shouldn't. I'm not sure what's in my beater 84 camaro but, I doubt it's as high as amp as yours since my car is just a lowly SC. I can run the lights, A/C, wipers, added on driving lights, and very modest 130watt amp. The A/C clutch seems to be the hardest thing on it making the voltage gauge drop to a thin 1/16" off the 13v mark. it goes up and down as the compressor cycles. That's only while all the other stuff is on though otherwise, no 1 single thing is a stress at all.
Do not use the crappy 'wiring kit' that comes w/low cost driving lights. Do yourself & your car a fovor & buy a relay (or relay kit) to hook up your lights. Your wiring & fusebox will thank you. I've added 'stock looking' cheapies to both my cars and using their suggested way of wiring, the wire gets hot & the insulation starts melting over time. While it dosn't bother me in my camaro, my 'bird is getting the stock switch & a relay harness made for its lights.
