Car Won't Start

Hey guys yesterday I was on my way to work. So I stopped to get some gas and when I got back in the car it would not start. When you turn the key you would get nothing. Would not even turn over. I checked the batt. connections and they were tight. After fooling with it for an hour I put the car in reverse and pushed it about 30 ft. then all of a sudden it fired right up . Then I tried it again 5or6 times with no problem. I replaced the starter and solinoid in APRIL. But has anyone else had this problem befor.

thanks :hail:

yes i have that same exact problem. i was talking to a mechanic friend and he said that if it's not the soleniod or started it would most definately be the ignition swtich wearing out. like i said mine has the same problem. it's hard to trouble shoot a intermittant problem like that. mine didn't happen for over six months and then started again and now is gone. good luck.

Since you moved the shifter and then it started, you may also want to look into the park/neutral switch.

My 91 TA is also givin me hell. You may also want to check your VATS.I have the same problem.I replaced the starter(one with a heat shield). Then the problem came back so I ripped apart the ignition.Still have a problem so I had a new key cut thinkin' it was a weak resistor in the key itself and I still have the same damn problem. It has'nt happened in about 4 months now,but one of these mornings when I am running behind and late for work it will do it just to **** me off(lol).I am at the point where I am going to sprinkle Holy water on it Maybe that will get all the demons out of it.

I tried holy water, only thing it did was get rid of Nick Knight. Suspect the ign sw contacts. They get weak and won't always read the pellet in the key. Resistors usually won't get weak as you say, they are usually good or bad. You can read your pellet with any ohmmeter. Log the resistance and get a variable resistor and place it across the two yellow wires coming down from the steering column. Unplug the two wire connector and adjust the variable resistor for the exact resistance from the key. Place the resistor across the two wires going under the dash, not the ones up the column. If it starts you know where the problem is.
