starting problem

I don't know what the deal is. The battery is good and everything works except the starter at times. Just everyonce in while the car won't start but later on in the day it will. Does anyone have any ideas of what this may be. I think it may be the connection at the starter or some corrosion around the connection. I will check, but I just wondered if anyone else has run into this kind of problem. Later

I'd say it's probably Heat Soak. Your starter is probably old and about to go anyway. Atleast mine was. Changed it and that was the end to all worries.

MADD make a soleniod relocation kit that will forever solve your problem. A new starter will work fine for a while, but the S.O.S. will start again.Get the relocation kit.( I think Summitt carries one, too.)

If the problem is happing when the car is cold it is not heat sock. We need more info. Is this only when the car has been running? If so it is probably heat soak. If not, dose the starter crank? If not it may be a VATS problem. Give use a little more detail.

It usually fails to start in the mornings when it is cold. Sometimes it will do it after the car has been running but has sat for a while. Its really weird. It acts as if the battery is dead but the battery is fully charged. Yet the starter won't engage. But then sometimes it will at like it has no problem and starts right up. Although the starter seems to turn the engine over slowly a lot of the time. I hope that helps. Thanks for the posts guys, if you have any ideas I would love to hear them.

First cheap thing to check is the battery connections, then the starter to battery wire, then the battery to car ground. Loosen and wire brush the connections. Check your wires closely. Sometimes the end pieces, especially down on the starter get corroded and don't ground giving you the intermittent condition. Next check the solenoid. Cheaper to replace than a new starter.
