Rear hatch problem!

I have an 87 Camaro SC here iss my problem.I turned key and opend rear hatch now I cant get it to shut. The part that pulls the hatch closed is like stuck in the down position so it wont shut. There is the sound like a motor is running and wont shut off. I disconnected the battery and connected it back thinking this might help but no luck.Still have the motor sound. Pulled out [LID-fuse] that stopped motor sound.Any help to fix this please!
THANKS

The gear nut is broken. GM p/n 60160587, about $5 from the dealer. You will likely find the OEM guides are broken also. I sell these. E-mail me if interested. Good luck, Lon.
