Gauge cluster swap-HELP!
Gauge cluster swap-HELP!
My '83 Camaro (4 cyl orig.)now has a 350 w/TH350. It still has the original gauge cluster-85 mph speedo, big gas gauge on the right, and idiot lights between for battery, oil pressure and temp. I have a cluster from a junked '8x with a 115 mph speedo, tach on right w/inset oil pressure gauge, and middle gauges for gas, temp, and volts. Anyone know how to make this swap before I jump in blindly? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I'm not too sure about this sort of thing, but I have an idea or two. My first question that I would have is relative to the setup you have- do you have all of the wires and related hookups for the gauges (like the oil pressure, engine temp..etc), since your old cluster DIDNT have those? I would check into that and see if you need to get additional wiring or equipment for the new cluster.

AFAIK, you need to replace the idiot light senders with the correct ones for gauges, and then bolt the cluster in. The wiring plugs are identical AFAIK.
If the tach doesn't work, you may have to run a wire for it.

The schematics for both types of clusters may be found here: http://www.geocities.com/vtcamaro/Wire-Diagrams.html
You will have to run a tach wire from the coil (white wire) to the cluster, in order for the tach to work.
