Hatch motor problems, please help
Hatch motor problems, please help
The hatch motor on my 91 Formula decides on somedays that it dosn't feel like pulling the hatch down...I have "jiggled" all the wires and checked the conections for any obvious problems, but what else could be wrong? Is the motor going bad, or could there be another cause? Thanks in advance.

One question, since you apparently have that device as well. Mine doesn't work AT ALL. Is it an automatic thing? I have tried on several occasions to make it work, but I have had no luck. Hmm.

There is a small switch on the left side right where the loop from hatch contacts the pull-down unit. Press this switch and the unit should power down. If this doesn't cure it, is there power to the unit? Just because the hatch solenoid works doesn't mean the motor is getting power. Last, if it makes noise, but doesn't go up or down, the gear nut is likely shreaded. It's available from the dealer p/n 20160587 for around $5. If you have to disassemble the hatch pull-down unit (to replace the gear nut). You will likely discover the guides are shot. GM doesn't have replacements and would prefer to sell you the entire hatch pull-down assy for around $400. But there is now another choice. I have manufactured new replacement guides and am selling them. E-mail me if you need them. Thanks, Lon.

If you are NOT hearing the motor run, than replacing the gear nut isn't the solution. You will need to see why the motor isn't working. Check the switch and that the motor has electricity. It sounds as if you will need to take the plastic trunk trim out and investigate it.
