IP (instrument panel) connector

I have an 82' Z-28 with the CCC electronic q-jet system in it now. I will be swapping in an 89 tpi harness computer ect. I have a factory harness from an 89 tpi camaro. The questionable part of the swap is, are the IP connectors wired the same? They are the same physicly. Does anyone have a schematic of this connector and what parts of the car it is wired to? Or do you know where I can go to find out, or what and where purchace a detailed manual with this information? any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

By the way, the IP connector is the milky-white connector with two rows of pins under the passenger side of the dash that the computer wire harness connects to. It is next to the computer.

Thanks for that email, All of that stuff labeled makes sense. The only thing questionable is the connector diagram has two rows of seven pins. The connector in the car and on both harnesses looks and is labeled like this:

.......8 pins
....-----------------
....|H|G|F|E|D|C|B|A|
....-----------------
.....|R|P|N|M|L|K|J|
.....---------------
.......7 pins

Maybe it is not called the IP connector. I would also think that a park/neutral switch would be in there, and what is the right turn doing in the engine management harness? The recieving end of the connector goes into the ecm harness directly, about 8" behind the ecm connectors. I just want to verify that we were talking about the same connector.

thanks again

Oh, wrong connector....The two IP connectors are at the rear of the instrument cluster. I have pinouts for the connector you are referring to for '84, '87. & '92 & can send that to you tomorrow. You will either need the mating connector for the '89 harness, or connect the extra needed wires for the '89 setup directly to the '89 harness for that connector. The '89 TPI harness has added wires in that conector to power both fuel injector banks, and the TC, if it's from an auto trans setup - your '82 most likely has the TC wire running through the driver side bulk head connector & you will have to reroute it over toward the connector we are discussing.

Thanks for the attention on this matter. My email is empty, maybe it did not make it. I was also wondering if the firewall connector is the same between the two years? That would be great if that was true, then it would be pretty much a plug-n-play install. I know I will have to swap the winshield wiper motor or just the cover, but that is no big deal.

Was too busy yesterday at work, but I'll get it out today....fire wall pinouts included, as well.

Thanks for that info Tim. I put together a similar diagram in "qualitee" paint for the 89 TPI engine harness that tells what ecm pins they go to and descriptions. I did this using the harness itself, Mitchell EFI wiring diagrams, and a DVOM for verification. I double checked it and made sure it is accurate, and will email this to you so that you can increase your archives, and so it can help others out if needed.

Thanks again for your help
