wiper control wiring

I needed to replace my original '84 Z28 wiper/turn signal/cruise control lever which had four wires (red/green/yellow/reddish brown). The replacement part that was recommended at the auto parts store had red/green/yellow/blue wires. I hooked the same colored wires together and then the blue to where the reddish brown was connected. Now my wiper washer and intermittent functions don't work. Any advice on whether I wired it wrong or if there could be another problem?

Not sure if you have the older cruise with several componets under the hood. The older unit should have a vacuum motor up on the intake manifold with a control unit on the fender well. That control unit would have the speedometer cable going to it.

If you have a newer one, it should only have a one piece unit on the drivers fender well. It's electronic and won't have a speedo cable going to it. The vacuum motor is built into the control unit.

If it's the mechanical (older) unit, you probably have a problem in the control unit and not the switch. I did the same thing on my 1983 SS Monte (replaced the switch only to find it didn't work). That mechanical control unit is a piece of junk and very expensive to repair. It's likely that your problem is there.

I have manuals for both types of cruise controls and have worked on them both. If you give me more info, I can help you further and even scan in a diagram or trouble shooting chart and email it to you.
Let me know.

Alan

oops, you said the wipers don't work. Not the cruise. Sorry. I can still look up some diagrams and trouble shooting charts.

Is it intermittant wipers?
