GTA batteries goin' like nothin'.. help?
Where's the damn tech board? ah well.
I've gone through 2 brand new interstate batteries in a month. That mean it's time for a new alternator, or what's eatin' them? I don't have anything crazy on the car to be eatin' up teh volts.
------------------
88 Firebird, 2.8, auto
Rebuilt engine/tranny (about 20,000 on them)
*K&N air filter
*Flowmaster complete cat-back exhaust system
88 GTA Trans AM, 5.7, auto
*K&N air filter
*New MAF
(Future Mods.)
-JET chip stage II
-180 thermo.
-Flowmaster exhaust
-SLP cold air induction
-SLP intake runners

Get a voltmeter & watch what it's doing while the car is running at the battery. If the voltage is steady at the battery, car running, there's a problem somewhere else. If the voltage is dieing as the car is running,, good change the Aly. is toast.

My alternator died a few months ago. When the guy checked it he explained that when the alternator is working properly the little instrument he had would say 14, if the alternator wasn't working it would display a 12.
Or maybe it was 12 working, 10 not...
Ask an expert. =p

With the car running (and nothing else going,, lights, etc.,), the alt shoud be putting out around 14vą.4. Most all (good) batteries I've checked sitting idle (car not running) hold around 10.3vą.3.
