H4 headlight conversion
H4 headlight conversion
Has anyone done an H4 headlight conversion on there camaro? I saw this kit on a website for about $40 and was wondering if it is a good mod. I want want a whiter light out the bulbs and this could be the solution.
If any has done this mod, did you have to ghange the wiring by the original harness to accomidate a new one?

There's a tech article on this site that tells you just about everything you could possibly want to know about it.

I have the Hella H4 conversions for the outside (factory low beams) and some cheaper brand (I forgot which one) for the inside lights. I made a new harness with 4 relays activated by the factory wiring. I need to put in another factory light pull switch where the lighter is for the inside lights. I used polarg and Nokya HID look h4 bulbs plus yellow "city" lights for additional turn signals. Polargs are awesome, people ask me all the time if they are real HIDs.
with all four lit up on high beam it is impressive. Especially with my Piaa 1200 driving lights.
I would stay away from generic H4 houseings as the light pattern is spotty. Hella is top notch stuff.
A new harness is needed or you will fry the factory wireing.
Best mod I've done

what kind of harness do i need. Do you have any pics of your conversion, I ordered mine from auto optiks with astra ultra white bulbs. I am now hesitant to put it in right away, I don't want to fry anything. If you could reply that would be awesome.
I made my own harness. You will need the female conectors that plug into the H4 bulbs. In addition you'll need 2 relays, one to activate high beams, and one to activate the low beams. Use the factory wires to trip the relays. Don't forget to fuse the power wire near the bat. THe light output is a hell of a lot brighter because I used phat guage wire straight from the battery.
Sorry no pics handy. I'm workin on it though.

I saw these lights on Ebay.

I've been looking for H4 conversion lights, and these have a running light setup in them. The price is right at $40, and the idea of having daytime running lights sounds good to me. I figure I could make up a new harness with three relays, one for the low beam H4's, one for the high beams, and the third one for the running lights with the trigger wire to turn on the relay hooked to a wire that's hot when the car is running.

HID lights are sick!
H4 9006 Conversion at HIDS4LESS runs about $450 for Stage 1...
they burn about 300% Brighter and use remarkably less power
I attached a pic of a 2002 SS with Stage 1 Lows (Actual car from HIDS4LESS ... )
They make a huge difference and look amazing!

yes, i saw on ebay where they have an acutal headlight housing that will allow you to put the 9004 bulbs in it for camaros. it looks very nice and i am seriously considering it when i get the money
I got an H4 kit for$35 from a similar company. They were metal housings with a thick plate of glass over the cover. Made in germany, they fit very snug and are incredibly bright, but I need to aim them properly. one of many things I am yet to do. Don't get any cheap japanese junk though, they dump it out by the truckload and it's nothing but cheap ric3r crap really. My kit was made in germany, and it was good quality, especially pleased with the aluminum backing, which does NOT get that hot while the bulbs are on!

I just finished my H4 conversion on my 87. I lucked out and got a set of hella housings off ebay for $31.10 plus $5. shipping. The hella's are first rate to be sure. I made my own harness with 2-30 amp relay's. Took some time but it's worth it to make up a good heavy duty harness.
I have a set of 80/100 watt blue bulbs and they had the low/high in the same bulb for a two headlamp system. I have the hella's mounted in the low beam (outside) position and left the high beam stockers in the inside positions. The blue lights are completely different looking than sealed beams. Not sure if I like it yet. But when you kick on the high beams with the H4's and the stock high beams, you light up the road for sure.
I guess it was worth it. With parts and everything I've got about $60 in the conversion. But it was a fair amount of work to make up a harness and do a nice job of it and run the wires in the GM style wire loom and protect it with a 20 amp fuse.
