Bought GM Code Reader
Hey I just picked up a GM Code Reader from Wal-Mart the other day so those of you that dont want to spend tons of cash for something that you can fix yourself. It was about $20 and it came with the book of codes and explained everything.

Its handy for sure, but open it up. It's an empty box and all it does is place a jumper across the ALDL pins just like you can do with a paper clip. The 20 dollar units are not actually code scanners. It basically does what you can do for free. I have one also, just so as to not have to fiddle with the jumper wire method. One thing though, the codes they give you in the book may not always agree with your specific model. Always use the info for year. You can get codes here on the site for all the TG'S.

Yeah, about all they're good for is an easy way to plug in the jumper. A previous boss of mine got one and I was flabbergasted when I saw it. I told him what it was and what it did and he promptly returned it in favor of the paperclip. It's not as pretty, but just as good and doesn't clutter up the center console.
If that $20 doesn't hurt you too much, I wouldn't worry about it then.
