electric feul pump
im converting from carb to TPI, I want to run an inline feul pump so I dont need to pull the gas tank, how is the best way to wire this, is it on all the time when the ignition is on or just on when the engines running. my other feul injected cars feul pump is only on when the car is running, it comes on for a brief seccond or 2 to pump up feul pressure before the engines run. whatcha guys figure? all help appreciated.

My car is a 1982 camaro Z28 and the doner car is a 1988 camaro IROC-Z, I could do a complete swap of all the electronics and gas tank but I figured I try and save myself some werk.

The ECM has an output that drives +12 volts to the fuel pump relay coil; the other side of the fuel pump relay coil is grounded. One of the fuel pump relay contacts is wired to the 20 ampere fuse that powers the ECM from the battery, and the other contact is connected to the fuel pump. In parallel with the fuel pump relay contacts is an oil pressure switch which closes when the oil pressure is above approx 5 psig - the switch mounts in an oil supply port above the oil filter. This gives a redundant path for the current to flow to the fuel pump. I'll e-mail you a schematic of the '85 setup - it's similar to the '88 setup.
