Vats or bad ground connection? Please help!!!!!!

Today when I went to start my car the damn thing would not turn over. It will do this sometimes here and there. I thought it was the vats system. But I noticed that the fuel pump was coming on every time that I went to start the car. And the security light was not flashing. I think if the vats is not working it will not let the fuel pump work. When this happened, me and my friend got my jumper cabels, and went to make a ground to the battery. We put it to the negative post, and then hooked the other side cable to the engine. Sure enough it started right up. Now was this just good timing and the vats decided to work or is it a ground problem to the battery?

sounds like a ground problem, clean the neg batt cable at the batt and the engine(or frame), if it is to the frame, clean the eng-frame ground cable, if it still does it, remove the starter and clean the block and starter mating surfaces, if you need it fixed fast, go to the auto parts store, buy a long batt cable (60 in.?)w/ lugs on both ends and run it from a starter bolt strait the the neg batt terminal
