Replacement bearings for Iceburg conversion

I installed the Iceburg conversion kit from www.alternatorparts.com over the summer (not the 140 amp upgrade, just the regular iceburg kit). Well, it seems that the bearings are starting to whine already. I really don't know why they would go so soon, especially since the rear is supposed to last longer with the heat sink effect of the new rear cover. The belt hasn't seemed too loose or too tight to me. But I digress. I want to order replacement bearings from the same place. They list two different front bearings and two different rear bearings though. Does anybody know which two of the four I should order? I would go straight to them, but can't get through to the email address that they provide.

They show:
P/N OEM P/N Description
BRG-6000 1989646 OEM rear
BRG=6000WIDE 10473711 wide rear
BRG-6203 908419 front
BRG-6303 NA front

I just don't know what is what and can't get through to them to find out. I just want to get rid of the alt. screaming so I can hear my exhaust again....

Hope somebody's got an answer for this one.

Thanks,
MikeS

mmmmmkay...

Looking a little deeper into their site, the Iceburg kit contents show a 10mm "wide" rear bearing listed. This seems to answer half of my question, but the one that came with my kit was the same size (8mm ?) as the old/stock one .

the 2 bearing used are their part#'s W6000-2RS NTN and 6203 for the iceberg kit. you did not try to seat the bearing by hitting the inner race? I have done a few of these kit's for friends and myself and so far so good. the old bearings should have a number stamped. places like McMaster Carr carry generic bearings and can usually supply a decent quality one for about $4 based on the number on the old bearing.

Odyssey,
I wish I had been right. Then I could give you a hard time for giving me a hard time. I thought that they used an "alternate" spelling for the name of the kit. So, I was intentionally spelling it wrong thinking that I was matching the name given to the kit. My fault.

And Danno,
I probably will end up ordering through McMaster. They've always worked out well when I've used them in the past, so I'll go that route for bearings as well. Orders usually arrive in a day or two also. I'm pretty sure I installed the bearings that are in there correctly. I know I should only apply force to the outer race if pressing it into a fitting and to the inner if pressing it onto a shaft, so I'm assuming (I know, I know) that I did it right. I wish I remembered doing it wrong or something. At least that way I'd have an explaination for why the bearings went so quickly.

Thanks for helping out with the part numbers. I'm still a little confused about the standard vs wide rear bearing issue. Both they and you state that the bearing used is a wide version, while I believe the one supplied in my kit was identical to the OEM bearing. Maybe just a part mixup in packaging.

Thanks,
MikeS
