Power Window Motor Help Please!

I need to replace the power window motor on the drivers side of my GTA.

Now, when I looked up the part on GM Parts Direct, they show a power window motor AND a window regulator, each was almost the same price as the other!!!! I don't too much mind the money for the motor but the regulator too? Do I need both? Does the regulator ever go out?

Thanks!

the regulator is the mechanism the glass sits in, if all the bushings are still tight and good you should be able to just replace the motor and not worry about the regulator, I had to do the motors in my moms grand am and it only took about an hour per side. do yourself a favor and cut a piece of 2x4 the right length to prop up the window before you remove the motor, you'd be suprised how heavy those things are !!!!. I used a 1/2" hole saw and drilled through the door framework to be able to get to the rivets that hold the motor in place, drill out the rivets through the holes you just made, remove the motor, replace with new one and use the bolts supplied to reattach it to the regulator, if you use and extension and socket you can install the new bolts through the same 1/2" holes.
