When I push my hatch release button ,my brake light on the dash comes on!Any ideas why this would happen?

 

I think my camaro does the same thing.
Is your car a stick, or an auto?
Mine is a stick and the hatch release won't work unless the
car is shut off, or the parking brake is pulled up.
I think it's part of a safety feature, because obviously when I pull the parking brake the little red light comes on.
I'm guessing there hooked together somehow.
