This electrical component is attached to a wire coming off the distributor cap bat terminal I believe and is mounted to the firewall. Has a wire going in and coming out of it and it is a small cylinder, maybe an inch and a half or two long. I am wondering if this could have something to do with my coils continuing to go out on me.
Please help.

Come on, an answer here please. I just put in the new coil again, and the car stopped running today. It ran 2 days and now it won't start. It turns over fine but is no spark. Could this part have anything to do with a coil failing?

This is probably a late reply:
I'd go with Redbird on this, noise suppression devices were internal to distributors long before the ECM arrived, beggs the question why the need for added suppression.
All other things considered, no spark means, no 12volts, no continuity (broken wire,) or bad ignition module (it doesn't affect the the way the eingine runs either it works or it doesn't.)

It's not mounted on the distributor, it's mounted on the firewall and it doesn't appear to be aftermarket. The wire leading out of one end of the small cylinder goes into the small connector that plugs into I believe the "bat" terminal on the distributor, I'm pretty sure this is all stock. I am thinking this part does something to the voltage. Any more ideas?
I guess the car running fine after a new coil is put in would kinda rule out the ignition module since you say it either works or it doesn't right?
