Mounting battery in trunk help!!!!
Im going to mount my battery in the trunk on the floor right in the middle but i have some questions.
1.I have a regular acid battery and i want to mount it in the back do i need to vent if so how?
2.If i were to buy a optima battery would i have to vent it and what kind of optima should I buy?
3.Ive heard of 4 gauge not being thick enough should i go with 2 then.
4.Where do i put the -(black wire) name some spots i can put it.
5.Anybody get any good traction from this.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!! i need some traction to much of this (not good if your racing showing off sweeeeeeeet) -------->

1)Yes you would need a vent. Moroso has a nice battery box thats sealed and could be easily vented to the outside of the car but it's a bit pricy.
2)Optima batterys dont need a vent there sealed.
3)To make sure find out how many feet of wire you'll need.
4)Not really sure of a good place to put the ground.
5)It's alot of work and I'm don't know of anybody who's done it in a third gen.

I used taylor 1 ga wire from summit, use copper lugs crimped and soldered to ends and shrinkwrapped, used 4 ga wire from alt to starter post with lugs also, and grounded to rear bumper bolt after it was polished with wire brush wheel. Coated bumper bolt with a thin layer of grease for corrosion protection. You must have a rear cutoff switch in back if you wish to run it on the track. If you have a firebird this can go in the license tag area and be hidden well. THe off position must be clearly marked. You must seal an optima in the same box as any other battery. Even tho it doesnt leak, they will not recognise it. The moroso box's hardware passes tech. Added a thick ground strap from motor to frame.
search the archives. this topic has been covered well by myself and others. good luck
it's late...i'm not in the right state of mind to type complete sentences

I don't think 4 ga or even 2 ga is thick enough for the job. I used 1/0 ga to be safe.
I ran my ground to the sheetmetal behind the locking compartment on the left side of the hatch area, but anywhere on the body is good so long as you make a solid connection.
As was mentioned, you will need to make a jumper of heavy cable to connect the engine to the chassis.
I suppose there are many ways to do this, try a welding shop for 1/0 ga welding cable. It is flexible and very low resistance.
