headlight motor adjustment

I recently installed a rebuilt motor in my driver side headlight. It works fine except that it opens farther than it needs to and tries to go down to far (pushing the headlight frame into the plastic bumper cover instead of stopping). I thought it could be adjusted by turning the threaded part sticking out of the bottom with the nut on it. All of my air-dam stuff is out of the nose due to an in car cam swap, so I was able to adjust this with the headlight motor in the car. It made no difference when I adjusted it, is it so far out of adjustment that I need to take it apart and do something inside of it? Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance for any help!
