All right, just got this car 1989 Firebird Formula, it has the HEI system, now i had to put a new dist. in it, and To set timing, i put the crank/balancer at the only timing mark i could see on it, then put the rotor at between the 1-8 on the cap, it this right because its not running so any help please!!!

 

If you put a new distributor in, #1 could be anywhere on the cap. To find it you need to remove the plug from #1 hole and stick your finger in there. When you turn the engine slowly and you stop it at TDC the compression should push your finger out. That's #1 TDC. Now you can look at the cap and wherever the rotor is pointing, that's #1 on the cap.
