car wont start..starter, alt or what

Hey all..my 85 trans has been sitting in my garage for bout 2 months till i got money fix some stuff...anyway, went to start it the other day, and nothing...i figured the battery was dead cuz it had died before so i swapped in one i had just taken outta my truck..long story short is when i turn the key there is power and a clicking sound and you can hear it trying to turn over but no go...could this be the alternator or starter, and is there a way i can bypass this so i can drive it to a shop?? thanx in advance for any help
Peace

ok, i am gonna reply to my own post....well i got the car started, not enough juice in the battery i guess. but here's the new problem...got it running, let run for about five min, then turned the lights on so i could pulled into the garage and the gauges all went to max and it cut off and wont restart...could this be battery, alternator, starter or something else

hmm, try to jump the car, if it doesn't hold charge then its probably your alternator. easiest thing to do would be to go to autozone and bring your battery and alternator with you, they can charge up your battery in one hour and test your alternator for free, and depending on whats up you can just pick up a new one right in the store. hope this helps

yea its possible its the battery too, after sitting for a couple months the battery will lose its charge, if thats the case just take it to autozone and have it charged. Thats what happened to me after i came back from college and nobody had started my car for a while, try the new battery and update whats goin on
