Weird problem with the guages
Hi,
I posted this a while back and no one replied. Anyway, When I start my car the guages are fine. Then after about 20 minuts of driving, whenever I put on my right blinker, my tach, oil pres, and amp metter, all move eraticaly in sync with the blinker. Then if I procede to turn on the headlights, nothing changes untill I turn on the dimmer switch. Once I turn on the guage lights, the tach goes to full redline, oil pres and amps go to dead zero. and my right blinker turns on permanently without blinking. Well, that is what is happening. I have looked in my shop manual countless times and havent fugured much out. If anyone can help, I would appriciate it.
Thanks.

I have been having the same problem. I really need to get it fixed because I just got a new motor and my temp gauge goes all funky and I worry about overheating. If someone on this board doesn't know the answer I think I am just going to an auto electronic repair place and have them fix it. It sure is annoying, and hopefully its not too pricey.
I had the same problem with my 84 Z-28.
The problem is in the printed circuit board behind the gauge cluster.
There is either a break or a corroded spot in the circuit somewhere on there. There are ways to fix it, or if you can get a cluster with a good circuit board out of a junk car. That's probably the easiest way to fix the problem.
Here is the thead that I had my discusion about this topic in. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...t=tach+jumpsto

Thanks Racerx004!! Its funny that you mentioned thats the problem because I took it to a mechanic down the street who use to own a thirdgen camaro and he said the exact same thing. He told me it was either a crack, break, or corroded spot on the circuit board. So hopefully I can find a new gauge cluster from a junk yard.

also you need to check all of your main grounds (battery to body, battery to motor, motor to firewall, the ground that connect to the dash ect) because it will cause the same problem, beleive me i know, i have fixed sevarl of these problems for customers.
oh and a break or corroded or trouble spot on the printed circut board is easilly spoted. doubble check before you spend the money.
thanks

Thanks for all the help guys, The weird thing is though that I have looked at my wiring cluster on the dash, and it looked fine, but the problem may not be visible.
I will put in my other guage cluster and see what happens.
Thanks a lot.
