Broken tachometer

Broken tachometer
i dont know much at all bout cars so i need lots of help. the tach doesnt work. it goes all the way to the right stop stob and stays there. if im in gear and waiting at stoplight or something it will go up to 5500. please help!!

Why don't you just buy an autometer tach and delete the factory one. If this is not an option then I do not know how to fix the problem. It might be a sending unit? I don't know.

Transmission: to many to list
Axle/Gears: 9bolt 4:10 in the T/A
get a hold of a scan tool and read the rpm's off the computer. if the computer reads normal, then there is a wireing problem or the gauge itself is bad.

i have the same problem in my 1984 t/a i would like to know what senor effect this i would like to keep the tach or get at least one like it to replace it if i have to thanks
