Ignition Upgrade....
Ignition Upgrade....
Just to let people know, I've used their products before www.performancedistributors.com and I've ALWAYS been pleased. But I just had to share the difference these parts made in my IROC...
Now, the parts that were in the IROC were NOT high mileage originals. The module was a recent new GM part, as was the coil and the cap and rotor have about 5k miles on 'em and are HD replacements. The plugs were replaced when I did the Taylor wires about 1k miles ago.
I've been having a hesitation problem ONLY when cold...so to me it wasn't really a problem, it never happened after car was warmed up. Also, when idling for long periods, the idle SOMETIMES would jump around, and TPS is recent, IAC and TB were cleaned, Min Air was set, Timing etc are ALL right on the mark. I was down to looking at the factory injectors, as they have some miles on 'em...
Yesterday, after having to wait almost 2 weeks because of snow and then rain, I got to install the DUI parts.
I used the 7-pin replacement HEI ignition module, and the replacement dist cap, coil, and rotor. PLEASE NOTE..my car is a '85 and although the engine and TPI is '87 vintage, the distributor is coil in cap style.
The cap, coil, rotor comes as a set from them and it's $75.00. Also, keep in mind...the one's sold by HYPERTECH???!!! They are MADE BY DUI And sold under the Hypertech name
for more $
I also installed their "Dyna Mod" module that runs $49.95.
Install was straight forward...
The results? My IROC ALWAYS started on the first turn...but now it's almost instant. Idle is GLASS SMOOTH. I even let it sat idling for about 20 minutes, and not one miss, stutter or anything.
So I went for a drive, not expecting alot... All I can say in WOW!!! The difference in the mid to upper RPM's is NOTICEABLE... and not just SOTP... 0-60 mp runs are QUICKER via the clock. The car seems much smoother ACROSS the RPM band.
I still can't get over the difference...I'm going to note fuel mileage, as I do every tank, and see if there's any difference...
Just thought I'd share, it's nice to spend the hardearned $ on something that lives up to it's name....
