what the F*** my IROC is killing me
what the F*** my IROC is killing me
so today was a beatiful day out and i took my car for a stroll. the electric fans would not turn on and my car would begin to choke as is to stall and when i first started it it would drive fine in overdirve and everything else. then on my way back, my batt guage was completely showing no charge i must have been running off the alt? but anyways the car was getting hot so i tried to drive home quickly yet evertime i stepped on the gas it would choke. finally when i got home i put the car in park and it was idling at 3000-3500 RPM...i shut it off and then after that my batt was completely drained. where can my massive power loss be coming from? there may be a short in my elec fans but would that cause this to happen? i dont know but it may look like i might have to take this thing to a professional and get charged money out my ***. can anyone help?
would it just be worth it to replace my entire wiring system? a painless wiring harness is $300 and if i do this i shouldnt have to worry about many electrical problems right? also this summer i am planning on dropping in a 383 TPI stroker, will i need a completely diff harness?

Have you been able to run the car lately and, using a voltmeter of some sort, see what the voltage it at the batery ? If it's not around 14.4 while rinning, that would point towards the alt. not doing it's job.
Just because it's 'new' doesn't gaurentee much. I've replaced bad parts with 'brand new' bad parts, to my frusteration, before.
Also, with the key in the 'run position (and a good battery, there should be +12v on the brown (or brown white stripe) wire, this powers the regulator on the alt. If that is not getting power, the alt will not work either.
It could also easily just be a dead battery, part sotres will test those as well for free most of the time.
