heater blower problems

i'll try to discribe this this the best i can,but i'm sure i'll forget something.Last fall right before i put the carmaro up for the winter the blower died all three setting didn't work. well the warm weather is here well sort of i pulled the blower out it seemed to spin freely. Before i tried jumping it to a direct 12v source it put a meter up to the blower wire turned the keys to on and turned the fan speed on high went out and checked and it was getting 12.xx volts ok must be the motor turned the keys to off went out to disconnect the meter and it was still getting 12 volts.any help would be great:

If the blower won't run with 12 volts applied to the motor the motor is bad. The blower motor gets voltage 2 ways. The first slower speeds get 12 volts through the switch at the control console through a multi-tap resistor located in the engine compartment. It sits in the blower stream, you can identify it by looking for a 3 wire plug. The high speed is controlled by the relay located in that area. Try pulling the relay connector off and see if the 12 volts goes away with the key off. Perhaps the relay contacts welded shut.

yeah i have problems with mine too

I only have the 2 speeds......even tho all 3or4 positions still work????????Both speeds seem kind of slow but maybe these cars are all like that. Does anyone think its a relay??
Thanks guys

It's the flat plug in the front, sorry it does have 4 wires. That plug goes to a resistor package to vary the speed of the blower motor.

The only way to test it properly is to meter the 12 volts to the motor as you step through the different speeds. As you increase the speed you should see a gradual increase in DC voltage to the motor.

Ok cool i can do that....but if I find out its not sending the gradual increase where is this resistor pack located???

In the engine compartment on pass side to the right of the blower motor you will see a 4 wire plug, the resistor is in the duct and has air blowing across it to keep it cool. It is held in with a couple of self tapping screws.

hey dude i might be able to help, since i had the same trouble. instead of checking the + 12 volts turn the key with the blower on and ground the ground pin to the body, thats how i got mine to work. i left the ground wires on the drivers side of the engine off and thats when i noticed my heat didnt work, but try the ground method

i had the same problem when the blower was off it wouldn't turn on and when it finally came on it wouldn't shut off all you have to do is change the relay it is really big right in the center of that other guys pic
