weird problem
weird problem
Ok well the fuel and voltage gauge do not work. they are both at nothing. The RPM gauge has been broken for sometime but while the Fuel and voltage ones worked. the temp works just fine and so does the speedo. ALso about 2 weeks ago the wire that comes out the back of the alternator shorted out to a ground but the 2 gauges were broken about 2 days before that happened. And have no clue what it is.
would really like the know how much gas is in the car lol.

problem
well last time i seen something like that it was the circuit line on the back of the cluster had burned off, remember they are very thin and arent designed to carry a alot of amperage try taking out the cluster and visually inspecting it and if they are burned out believe me you cant miss it but you can solder them back together and if the trail is long use 20 guage wire to join each end
well about 3 weeks ago i had pulled the gauges out and had to solder a cross next to a light bulb because when i would turn on the lights the guages would die. But I had fixed that and everything worked fine for about a week or so and then just the gas and voltage guauges stoped. do you still think it might be just another place on the board causing that? or would that problem with board be only noticed by turning on the lights?
also what is the curicut that runs the RPM to the gauge. i know its a wire comming off the distributer but where does it go???

it does sound like the board could have a burned spot in it really strange for two guages to go out at same time but you should check it and it wouldnt be a bad idea to use a meter to check it for continuity and as far as the tach its wired directly from the dis to the cluster plug it should be a white wire off the dis, put a test light to it when running the engine and see if your getting light if you are then you have to check the board and possibly the wire coming in through the firewall
Ok ill be taking the cluster off again to figure out that stuff.
But, i havent used the car in about 3 days and i went out yesterday to start it and the battery was dead. so i charged it enough to get it started and went to drive it thinking that the altanator would bring it back up. well I get it back home and its running ruff and i turn it off and want to start it and its dead again
so i know the altanator is not charging. well heres the thing this is a new one just put it last week (95 3.4 ) and it worked fine i was watching the volts stay at 14 and then it died the other day. the last altanator did the same thing. Now on the back where the charge wire goes in, if i move it while the engine is on the altanator will kick in at 14 volts and stay for about a minute and the volt meeter will drop back to 12 ( when i know its not working again) and i can keep moving that wire.
The enigne is a 3.4 from a 95 camaro and the wireing harness is from the orginal 2.8. the connector from the 95 had 1 wire going into it and the 86 2.8 had two, a red and a black. people told me that the wire that has 12 volts on it is the one to put on that one wire connector, the red one does and i connected it and the altanator worked. on the orginal 3.4 altanator it worked for about a week and then it started doing the same thing this one is now and i thought it was just bad so i bought a new one and it was working great for about a week and now its just pissin me off soo bad lol. Now there are alot of ways i could fix this. One by chagning the bracket and putting the 2.8 altanator back on, the problem is the 2.8 was on the other side as the 3.4 so i would have to practaly take the engine out to get to the blots to pull off everything in the front and change to water pump, witch i really dont want to do. another is to figure out what is causing this altanator to burn up. Im thinking its the way its wired but ive got no clue what needs to be done about it..
so any help on this different problem would be great
thanks
