'89 305 to 96 LT1 interior electronics question..

When I plan to swap my 305TPI to a 96 LT1, I will have to of course change ecm's. and because I don't understan the ecm very well I must ask. How does all the non engine stuff (dash, tach, door locks, ignition security), etc. have a hope of working with the 96 LT1 ecm? or perhaps I am in way left field here

Thanks

Thirim

What do you mean by dash? Lights? Door locks, windows, mirrors dont run through the ECM. The tach I don't know about beacuse I am doing the LT1 swap, door swap, dash swap, console, etc all at once. Do you mean VATS? The vats system is now into the new ECM.

I don't know what I mean I don't understand what the ecm does, exactly.. I guess I am wondering what problems I will have with an LT1 swap as far as electronics go. I assume that the tach an possible speedo go into the ecm.. perhaps not. Just wondering how much of the dash I will have to unbolt to accomplish this...

The speedometer depends if you have a electrical or mechanical. To save problems I am going with a mechanical speedometer. The tach I am not wiring through the ECM. I am going directly from the tach to the hookup. The ECM controls what your engine does, how much fuel, etc. How to make it run in short. You will probably undo most of the dash to accomplish this. That is why I am doing the 4th gen dash swap right now because it is 10x quicker than putting the original 3rd gen dash in
