I want to replace the ignition coil in my car. My qustion is, what style,
in cap, on top of the cap, external, etc?

Will brand make a real difference?

It all depends on what kind of distributor you've got. All the styles work out very well. The ext coil, stock on my car, is the easiest to change, maintain, test, and so one because of its relatively accessable location.

you might as well install a performance coil. Screw the stock one. An Accel or similar coil isn't that much more than the stock part.

One recomendation would be to not use an ignition coil from Auto Zone. I have heard many bad things about them. Your best place to go is Napa or Pep Boys.
