how do you test a hatch motor?

Well basically i wanna know what i havta do in order to test my hatch motor.. it stopped working and im unsure if its a wiring problem (which im really scared of due to the fact that someone at sometime made a wiring harness and i have no way of knowing what goes to what) so basically im looking for a way to jump the motor to see if it's at fault or if i gotta figure out this rigged up wiring

Follow the Tech Article I wrote on repairing them. Once you have the reversing switch removed from the motor you can test the motor with +/- 12v to the terminals where the reversig switch mounts. If the motor works, then test for +12v at the red with white stripe wire that connects to the blue wire on the pull-down unit. If both of these tests pass as OK, then reassemble and test it with the unit reassembled. You may find the striker-sensing switch is bad. That switch is located just next to the latch and is held on with one screw. It is common for the switch to wear out with time. That switch contains all the wiring for the pull-down unit. If that is bad I don't try to diagnose it or repair it unles it is something obvoius at first glance. I just replace it. The only other electrical items on these pull-down units is the relay and the reversing switch. Whatever you find is bad, you'll find available on my web site.
Another option is to order a rebuilt or re-manufactured unit and send yours in as a core. Or contact me about diagnosing and rebuilding yours.
